Teradek India: Wireless Video, Prism and Where to Buy

What Teradek is and who uses it

Teradek designs and manufactures video solutions for broadcast, cinema and general imaging work. In practice that means three jobs: moving a clean picture from the camera to the people who need to see it, putting a live signal onto a network, and controlling gear remotely. If you have stood on a film set and seen a transmitter clipped to the camera cage with a receiver feeding the director’s monitor, there is a good chance it was Teradek.

The people who buy it in India fall into a few groups. Cinematographers and camera assistants use the wireless video and lens control gear on set. Rental houses stock it because productions ask for it by name. Broadcasters, event companies and OB teams use the encoders and decoders for live streaming and remote production. If you are searching for Teradek India, you are most likely in one of these groups.

Teradek product lines and what each is for

Teradek’s own range is grouped by job, and it is easiest to read it the same way. The groups below are the ones on the official Teradek site.

Zero-delay wireless video: Bolt and Ace

This is the line most people mean when they say Teradek. The range includes Bolt 7, Bolt 6 LT, Bolt Mobile RX, Ace 750 and Ace Micro TX. Bolt 7 is the newest generation and comes as Bolt 7 750, Bolt 7 1500 and Bolt 7 MAX, each available as a transmitter and receiver set or as a single transmitter or receiver. The MAX adds a Deluxe set in Gold or V-Mount versions.

Bolt 7 keeps the 6GHz zero-delay video of earlier Bolt units and adds a 900MHz radio that carries a separate data channel next to the video, which Teradek positions for camera control and colour management. It also has a larger colour display for wireless status and diagnostics, a wired pairing mode, and DP-ALT mode, which lets selected cameras and iPhones send video and data over a single USB-C cable. An optional Advanced Spectrum License expands the frequency range.

Wireless lens control: Teradek RT

Teradek RT is the wireless lens control line. It matters if you pull focus remotely and want the control system to sit in the same ecosystem as your video link. SmallHD monitors can also show Teradek RT lens overlays, which ties the two brands together on a focus puller’s rig.

Encoders and decoders: Prism

Prism covers Prism Jetpack, Prism Flex, Prism Mobile and Prism Rack. Teradek describes the family as secure, ultra-low latency 4K HDR encoding and decoding for live streaming and remote collaboration. Take Prism Flex as the example. Teradek lists it as a 4K HDR streaming-over-IP encoder for live production, with up to 4K60 HDR, HEVC or AVC encoding, glass-to-glass latency as low as 80ms, and protocols that include SRT, RTMP(S), WHIP and MPEG-TS.

On the back it has a 12G-SDI input with loop-through, an HDMI 2.0 input, dual Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi 6 and two USB ports for LTE modems and external recording drives. Up to 16 channels of audio are supported. Network bonding runs through Teradek Core.

Production streaming, broadcast and mobile connectivity

Teradek TV, the Serv Series and Link AX sit under production streaming. Ranger and RF-X are listed as wireless broadcast products. For cellular connectivity there are Link, Data and Node modems, and the Prism Flex page names Node II, Node II CBRS and Node 5G as the external modems that attach to it. Core and Pro Care are Teradek’s service offerings.

Teradek also sells accessories, and the official site groups them separately. When you place an order, ask which mounts, cables and power items belong with your transmitter and receiver, so nothing is missing on shoot day.

How to choose the right Teradek line

Start with the problem, not the model name.

  • You need to send picture from camera to monitor on set. Look at the Bolt line. Choose between the 750 and 1500 variants by how far you really need to transmit, not by what sounds bigger. Most interior and small location setups do not need the longest range.
  • You want data or camera control alongside video. Bolt 7 is the generation built around the separate 900MHz data channel.
  • You need a compact transmitter for a small camera. Ace 750 and Ace Micro TX are the names to ask about.
  • You stream live events, news or sports. Prism is the family to work from. Prism Flex suits live production with SDI and HDMI sources, and Prism Mobile and Prism Rack are the other form factors in the family.
  • You work over cellular networks. Ask about the Node modems and the Core platform for bonding, since Prism Flex uses external modems for LTE and 5G.

If your budget is tight, a single transmitter and receiver set usually does more for a production than extra accessories. Tell us how many cameras you run and we will help you size it.

What to check before buying

A few checks save a lot of trouble on the day.

  • Match the generation. SmallHD lists its monitors as compatible with Teradek Bolt and Ace devices using the BB3 chipset. If you plan to mix monitors and transmitters from different years, confirm the pairing first.
  • Confirm the camera output. Check whether your camera outputs SDI or HDMI. Bolt 7 also supports a USB-C route on selected cameras, but only selected ones, so ask before assuming.
  • Plan power. The Bolt 7 MAX Deluxe set is offered in Gold or V-Mount versions, so match it to the battery plates you already own.
  • Check the licence. Wider frequency tuning on Bolt 7 needs the Advanced Spectrum License, which is a separate item.
  • Know your streaming destination. For Prism, the receiving end decides the protocol: SRT, RTMP(S), WHIP or MPEG-TS.
